We respectfully call upon @USGBC to update #LEED requirements for effective prevention and mitigation of building/window collisions.
A building neither green nor sustainable when actively harming wildlife.

Here is an open letter, signed by various concerned groups and individuals, that has been submitted to LEED with comments on the current draft version v.5. This letter suggests standards for bird collision deterrence that LEED certified buildings would need to adhere to.

Common misconception.
A bell doesn’t reduce the number of prey that cats catch.
If you care about your cat, the constant jingling of the bells can cause them stress.
If you have predators in your area, the bells can possibly alert predators to them.
KEEP. YOUR. CATS. INDOORS.

Did you know if you have a pet euthanized, in some states, you can’t take them home to bury them bc it’s 1. A risk for animals to scavenge them & 2. It’s a risk to ground water & plant life as euthanasia solution never degrades & just leeches into the ground eventually

When euthanized animals are improperly disposed of, animals like scavengers (including eagles!) and pets, are put at risk of being poisoned. If you’re a veterinary professional, shelter worker, pet owner, or landfill manager, please watch this to prevent this from happening again

❗Breaking: Alberta minister quietly lifted the coal moratorium (again), meaning Albertans are about to see a lot more coal activity in our mountains. This reverts protections and lifts the suspensions on any approvals paused under the previous orders.

Just insane that we are letting trappers 'manage' our wildlife. Govt biologists have been silenced. Loewen's crew of uneducated trappers and trophy hunters are now in charge.

We've seen collared & giant anteaters, armadillos, crab-eating foxes, black-striped capuchin monkeys, tapirs & ocelots.
We take their land, but make no provision to protect them.
