This one surprises me. Danny Ongais, who won six IndyCar races in the 70s and had 32 top 10 finishes in 87 starts (in an era when the DNF rate was high) never finished second in a race. Third thru 10th, but never second.

Looking like this will be the first Indy 500 qualifying in a very long time, if not the first ever, where drivers don't have the option to make multiple runs to record a time. Today it's going to be one-and-done to set the initial order.

Even in 2024 there was one delay with the VeeKay crash and Larson waved off. Four cars didn't go - waiting on better conditions. But they did 27 complete runs in two hours and 29 minutes. I don't have the cleanup time on VeeKay.

Boy am I mad. Spent all that time driving to and from Indianapolis this weekend only to find out the @IndyCar race was right here in Nashville! Did these headlines show up in anyone else's "X" feed under Today's News? Maybe you can't believe everything you read on the internet?

Doing some Indy prep today. Found that car #7 has only won the 500 two times. Both times driver's first name was Bill. I think Christian has time to get his name legally changed before May 24.

Doing research and stumbled across this. No argument @BobRahal is one of the all-time greats. The first eight years of his IndyCar career his best finish in the season opener was 14th. He only finished one of the eight. 4 crashes, a fire, suspension failure. Only led 2 laps.

The last two @IndyCar races have each seen a first-time pole winner. Who will be the next to add their name to the list? There are only 8 drivers who have never won a pole. Collet, Siegel, Simpson, Hauger, Rasmussen, Schumacher, Armstrong, and Robb.

Condolences to family and friends of Long Beach Grand Prix main man Jim Michaelian. Just saw him last week in Arlington. Saw him at the first Music City GP. He was always looking at what others were doing, seeing how he could make the LBGP even better. He will be greatly missed.

This might be a little too 'under the hood' for the general public but in my opinion the greatest scene from DoT. Having worked with drivers who bent valves overrevving engines I get it Harry. Can't hide from the tell-tale. ;-) RIP to Robert Duvall, aka Harry Hogge.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. George Barber. He'd drop by the tv booth every year to see if there was anything more he could do to make a better telecast. His attention to detail was more than amazing. A visit to Barber Motorsports Park should be on every fan's bucket list.

The thought hit me Thursday watching the Duels. After talking to others in the industry I think I'm safe saying there have only been 4 people direct the Daytona 500 telecast since 1979. Today will be the debut of a new FOX director. He will become the 5th director in 48 500s.

Same two knuckleheads, same kart, pics taken 27 years apart. He grew up, I grew out. Ben rode my kart for the first time today. I'm a proud dad. He did pretty good.

1/2 - Congrats to @buckcentral10 on his long-overdue induction into the Nashville Fairgrounds Hall of Fame tonight. To commemorate the occasion, here are a couple of videos. Him racing his 4-cylinder at Nashville in 1983. youtu.be/3K0Kpm6A2L4?si=LKQk…

1 / 4 I’ll start this by saying I really like Will Power. Here are the facts. Since 1956 only 46 races have been won by a driver 45 or older. Only 12 drivers have won after turning 45. Only 1 race has been won in this century by a driver 45 or older.

3 / 4 It was easier to do back in the day because you probably didn’t earn your way into an Indy car ride until you were almost 30. And still, 9 of the 12 only won 4 or fewer races. Does Will Power win another race? I think so. Hope so. Does he win many more? The numbers say no.

4 / 4 Will Power turns 45 on March 1. You think Penske doesn't know this? Father Time is undefeated. Oh - the last driver to win after turning 45? Many of you have figured out it’s Helio Castroneves in the 2021 Indy 500.
