The headline below does not name Airdrie and Shotts.
But it does make
@theSNP’s history of candidate-selection rows look even more deserving of scrutiny.
In Airdrie and Shotts, Cllr Paul Di Mascio reportedly believed local SNP members would have backed him. Instead, he says he was put through a process involving Kirsten “Everest” Oswald, told he had failed and Anum Qaisar - daughter of a millionaire businessman - was selected, later becoming MP.
Di Mascio alleged the process reflected influence from Peter Murrell and Nicola Sturgeon. The SNP said Qaisar was selected by a ballot of members.
Fine. Then let’s see the process, the scoring, the minutes and the decision-making.
What I do not understand is why
@JohnSwinney, supposedly trying to restore trust, has promoted Oswald when her name has also been linked to complaints about NEC scrutiny, finance questions and party governance.
Maybe it is all coincidence.
Maybe every uncomfortable question around SNP democracy just happens to pass the same desk.
But Scotland is entitled to ask why someone so close to so many disputed internal processes has been rewarded with ministerial office rather than subjected to proper scrutiny.
