Ancient Greek ballots used to kick politicians out of Athens! Broken pieces of pot, known as ‘ostraca’, were used in a democratic process known as an ‘ostracism’. If a candidate received 6,000 votes, they were exiled for 10 years! Ostraca inscribed with the name of the famous Athenian general and politician ‘Themistocles’, 482 BC. Springbok Radio was South Africa's first nationwide commercial radio station, operating under the SABC from 1 May 1950 to 31 December 1985. It was a bilingual station (English/Afrikaans) popular for serials, comedies, and music. The station closed down due to the rise of television, but its legacy lives on through the "Springbok Radio Revisited" project.

If it’s done with laws that factors race, it’s a race-based laws. A race-based law is racist by definition. Calling it redress or transformation or lawful discrimination or whatever new term will be coined tomorrow won’t change the fact that it is, fundamentally, racist.

Clean, simple, classic, masculine. You hardly ever see ceiling fans in “decorated” homes, but I’m a big fan. Can’t stand stale air.

Just a few years ago, the only tourists in El Salvador were surfers in beach towns. Going to downtown San Salvador at night? Unthinkable, even for locals.

Gold and enamel icon of Saint Michael, a fine example of the craftsmanship in medieval Constantinople! Today it is held in the treasury of St Mark’s Basilica in Venice after being taken during the Fourth Crusade.

These name changes, like turning Graaff-Reinet into Robert Sobukwe town, are just pathetic stunts. The government is clearly just pissing off Afrikaners and desperately trying to erase their history. Pathetic. 🚮🚮🚮

I’m very serious about this. You need to be making your home a beautiful and orderly place. Your home, then your wardrobe, then your yard and garden, then the borders of your place, then your neighborhood, town, state, country. It all radiates outward. But you can’t think about all that. You can only control your immediate surroundings, where you live and what you wear. This orders your mind - and the way you dress sends signals to everyone who sees you, that you care, that people around them care. That we are fully formed adults whose actions in the world matter.

Kaapenaars may feel smug looking at @jozivsjozi and knowing how rare these conditions are in the Cape. But Joburg is still the biggest city in South Africa and its decline under the ANC is an embarrassment for the whole country.
