Experiencing a bit of #Esca [trunk disease] in two #vines. I’ve tried cutting it out (removing either the arm/spur) but to no avail. I might try scratching out the affected wood to see if that works, otherwise I’ll just have to dig them out next winter and burn them… 🙁🍇🇪🇸

The final piece of the winemakers’ jigsaw is getting the last wine into bottle - this time it was our #Syrah. Really pleased to see the vines literally heaving with grapes this year after four lean years! Now we get to do it all over again… 😉🍇🍷🇪🇸 #wine

A bit of a “Vine & Wine” day today. It started with a daybreak sulphur spray in the vineyard; then down the shed to bottle the Viognier and Grenache rosé (best rosé to date!), and ended with an evening irrigating the vineyard again… 😉🍇🍷🇪🇸 #wine #vineyard #photography

Summer is really starting to bite now, with a high of 35.3°C in the shade today. Kinda wish the whole place was floodlit, so we could work at night instead… 😉☀️🌍🔥🇪🇸 #weather #photography

Spotted out while walking; don’t think I even know what Konga is… 🤷🏻‍♂️🫙🇪🇸

We’re pretty much relying upon the irrigation now to #water everything, as it hasn’t rained for four weeks now and temperatures are >30°C daily, accompanied by a drying wind. Tendrils are the first part of the vine to show water-stress. There’s never enough water… 🫣🍇💧🇪🇸 #wine

After several lean years during a drought which took its toll on our 2019 planting of #Parellada where we lost around 60% of them, it’s great to be seeing the new plants establishing themselves and these few survivors bearing a healthy crop… 😉🥂🍾🇪🇸 #sparklingwine #wine

The wind dropped enough this evening to apply a spray of micro-nutrients to the vines, to substitute trace elements that seem to get locked up in this clay soil. New flowers emerge after topping off the #vines. These go on to form Carràs de Raïm, the second set #grapes… 😉📷🍇🇪🇸

Nice to see the Mitre Aloe (Aloe mitriformis) flowering annually now, after taking a few years to get established… 😉📷🇪🇸

It’s still early days yet, but I’m crossing my fingers that our little #Merlot graft measures up to its parent that I photographed in 2012, just before being grubbed up & replanted with almonds. It’s set poorly this year, but the promise for the future is there… 😉📷🍇🫶 #wine

Well, the rain never came, so I guess these #Syrah will have to fatten up by their own volition… 😉📷🍇🇪🇸 #vineyard #photography

A bit of a hazy, golden evening across the grove (a bit of dust in the air I guess) with temperatures feeling much fresher here, topping out at a much more palatable 30.9°C. A little rain is forecast for tomorrow, which everything is now desperate for. Fingers crossed… 😉🫒🍇🇪🇸

#Viognier were the first to flower, so obviously now they are romping away in the growth stakes! Spent the day putting up the electric fence, as there was a wild boar on the lower terraces last night… 😬🍇🐗🇪🇸 #vineyard #photography

It’s quite astonishing to see how fast the #olives are progressing. They only flowered a few weeks ago, yet here we see the first truly formed #Farga olives after the poor set ones have been rejected. We may be in for a larger crop than last year, if it rains… 😉📷🫒🇪🇸

A little bit of cloud cover meant we only had a high of 34.4°C today. More strimming achieved and a protective layer of sulphur applied to the vineyard… 😉🍇🇪🇸

Task du jour, cleaning out six months of algae growth in the IBC (1,000L water tank) that we use for irrigating the garden. It could be worse, it could be smelly… 😂🤢💧

I read that Woolly Bindweed (Convolvulus lanuginosus) is a great addition to Mediterranean gardens, but to be honest I find it quite invasive on farmland & is a pain to strim when the stems have lignified. Quite pretty on someone else’s land though… 😉📷🌼🇪🇸 #photography

Had to do a botch job on my lovely #Fossil Blue watch my wife bought me years ago. When I had the battery replaced last year, the watch started rattling. The movement holder ring was missing; sadly now discontinued. Cut an o-ring as a spacer and it seems to have worked… 😉⌚️❤️
