👀 Even in winter, there's so much wildlife to see along our canals and rivers. 😍 Great to see these recent pics from #TeesBarrage 👇 @CanalRiverTrust winter wildlife spotting guide canalrivertrust.org.uk/thing…

Replying to @teesbirds1
@teesbirds1. @teesmouthbc Nice walk around Tees Barrage, Kingfisher, Redpoll (think it would be Lesser, although they have been lumped into one species) and the Maned duck still on the white waters canal

Our waterways look beautiful in the winter but snow and ice can make things tricky when using towpaths and lock sides. Please take extra care in these wintery conditions, wearing suitable footwear and keeping a safe distance from the water's edge.

A brilliant glimpse of canal history 💙
#AlphabetChallenge #aforabstract Rope marks on a canal bridge on #Macclesfield canal. The grooves were caused by the tow ropes that pulled horse-drawn barges. @CanalRiverTrust

These are a winter favourite for birds. 🙌 Have you spotted any feeding along your local canal?
The sculptural elegance of teasel in the snow❄️ So-named as its prickles were used to raise a nap on cloth - 'teasing' - also the origin of the current meaning of 'tease'❄️ It appears as a heraldic bearing on the arms of the worshipful Company of cloth-workers❄️
