This is fun / terrifying
Most physicians who took USMLE Step 1 over 5 years ago have no clue what’s actually on the exam. Don’t believe me? For those of you who’ve forgotten what Step 1 really tests, hop on board for a little refresher. (thread)

This will no doubt be an excellent teaching resource
Finally did a little house keeping this morning and tidied up my AKI hand out. This is the support document I use to teach AKI to 3rd year med students. Please comment and feel free to modify. pbfluids.com/2018/02/the-acu…

Inpatient Day 8: Students love / need to learn about hyponatremia. We talked about this efficient case-based diagnostic approach after rounds today. Thanks @kidney_boy . @NU_IntMed
Warning! Tweetorial Ahead: I was consulted for hyponatremia. The sodium was 122 and the patient was apparently asymptomatic.

Inpatient Day 2: when searching for fungal infection, was reminded of this extremely interesting explanation for why urine antigen tests are used to diagnose respiratory infections. We often don’t stop to appreciate the “why” behind some of our more common tests. @NU_IntMed
24 Dec 2018
1/ Why do we use urine antigen tests to diagnose respiratory pathogens? Patients admitted with pneumonia are often diagnosed with S pneumoniae or legionella based on a positive URINE test. Let's try and figure out why we search the urine to identify lung pathogens.
