Andrew Fischer (
@Vol_Baseball) transferred from Ole Miss and will provide an immediate threat in the top half of a potent Vol lineup.
He stands loose in the box with his hands starting high. It's a quick trigger and generates a lot of bat speed through the zone. His hands are quick to the ball and his violent hip rotation allows him to tap into his plus raw power with consistent hard contact (90th percentile EV at 106.8 mph last spring, per
@Data_prospects)
Fischer flashed a .231 ISO, which was 2nd among among qualified Whitecaps (Helfrick, .253), before exiting the summer circuit. He finished with a .394 xwOBA (min. 30 BIP, per
@gabe_appelbaum).
Fischer is also a very patient hitter and makes good swing decisions with solid plate discipline. He owned a 13.9 BB% at Duke and Ole Miss his first two seasons and walked more than he K'd on the Cape (14 BB/9 K) in 82 PA. There are some occasional swing & miss concerns in the zone but had only a 12% chase rate this summer. He excelled at making loud outs, mostly in the RCF gap; displaying massive pull side power.
He's a solid athlete but is a fringe runner at best. Still in search of a defensive home, Fischer was primarily a DH in Oxford but got looks at 2B and 3B this summer on the Cape. It's an average arm that could play up the middle despite limited range. I think he'll get some opportunity at 3B this spring but more likely slots into 2B at the pro level.
As it now stands, Fischer's offensive makeup makes him a late-1st/early-2nd round pick. If he can prove to play an average infield this spring, I could see a team jump on him in the mid-1st come next July as a 25 HR bat. There is some Max Muncy to his game.
