There are many valid criticisms about the Chibs era but Power of the Doctor is fucking incredible and nobody will convince me otherwise. If it wasn't for the weird clothes regeneration it'd have the absolute best regeneration hands-down, imo.

'The Power of the Doctor' is the 2nd best regeneration story of the revival ('Parting of the Ways' is, of course, the best).
But "Doctor Whoever-I'm-About-To-Be....Tag, you're it!" is such an all-timer final line. Brilliant closing moment, ironically changed during the edit.

Unironically the tone of The Church on Ruby Road should have been the entire RTD2 era. Would some people hate it? Yes. But that Labyrinth-style camp fantasy is something we really hadn't seen before for Doctor Who and it was genuinely the most creative RTD was this entire era.

I also think the claim that Doctor Who doesn't connect with kids any more is fucking stupid. It wasn't even TRYING to connect with kids, I don't even know WHO the last era was for. It wasn't for the long time fans, it wasn't for new fans, it wasn't for the kids.

They talk about that per episode budget like it's dire but I am not kidding when I say that I think $4m per episode is enough. Doctor Who doesn't need to be a big CGI spectacular to be special, it needs strong emotional storytelling and interesting sci-fi concepts.

I don't know the exact numbers but from what I can find that seems on track with what the show cost in the Capaldi and Smith eras and the show looked FINE. This is doubly true if the episode count stays reduced from 12 to 8 (which would suck but I'd take it.)
