This seems like a pretty significant aspect of the current opinion landscape - voters expect taxes to go up whoever wins, but they expect Labour to spend the money on public services (which is what most want to happen - see e.g. recent British Social Attitudes reports)

If you love driving your car and want less congested roads, the best thing to do is support policies that expand bus routes and remove other cars from the road!

When I wrote about trams recently, some people asked me: "Why are trams better than buses?" One advantage: Easier to plan your life around a tram route in the knowledge that this sort of thing can't happen.
His “plan for motorists” is also expected to restrict the number of hours a day that cars are banned from bus lanes, and scale back low-traffic neighbourhoods. bit.ly/46rwp8i

That volatility problem is really important to understand, because it prevents long-term planning. That blocks: - us getting value for money (boom & bust raises costs) - investment actually happening (govt has failed to spend £1 in every £6 investment planned since 1998)

Love this chart from @martinstabe showing quite how few deaths are subject to inheritance tax in the UK. Great example of where showing the numerator within the context of the denominator is much more powerful than just plotting the percentage. ft.com/content/3996c757-3395…
