Ever heard traditional Gaelic Irish music sung by an a cappella group like this? This is Ceann Dubh Dilis (My Sweet, Dark-Haired Love), arranged by Michael McGlynn and performed by Spokanki.

Remembering @gardainfo D/Garda Colm Horkan who was murdered on duty on this night 6 years ago after he went to assist colleagues in Castlerea Roscommon. May we always remember those brave Gardai gone before us who made the ultimate sacrifice in Service to this State. May he RIP

Britain’s 'Secret Listeners' sat in the M Room at Trent Park surrounded by 15 hidden pressure microphones, acetate discs and old-fashioned switchboards. They recorded every word from bugged German POWs. This was WW2's most sophisticated eavesdropping operation: (🧵)

The Mata Hari file MEPO 3/2444 @UkNatArchives has been pored over by countless historians, yet, as I discovered, it still holds secrets, and some of them were staring me right in the face. The file contains records relating to Mata Hari's 1916 interrogation at New Scotland Yard. The infamous double agent had been misidentified as another German spy when the ship she was travelling on docked at Falmouth. As I worked my way through the file, I came across a confidential letter from Basil Thomson, the head of Special Branch, to the Dutch Ambassador, but I wasn't interested in its contents, fascinating as they were. I was looking for someone in particular, the woman who had typed the letter – Basil Thomson’s personal secretary/assistant, Miss Kathleen Pettigrew. And, there in the top left-hand corner were the typed initials ‘K.P.’ [I did my very best to contain my excitement] Kathleen later worked for MI6 and is 'the' inspiration for Ian Fleming's 'Miss Moneypenny' character. Kathleen's story is told for the first time in my award-winning book Her Secret Service: The Forgotten Women of British Intelligence @wnbooks amzn.eu/d/026fUcBl Signed, C (those who know, know) 🕵️‍♀️

Scientists have officially discovered a brand-new organ in the human body. The mesentery — a structure long thought to be a collection of fragmented tissues holding the intestines in place — has been reclassified as a single, continuous organ. This landmark discovery, led by researcher J. Calvin Coffey at University Hospital Limerick, has fundamentally changed our understanding of human anatomy. For centuries, the mesentery was dismissed as insignificant. Now, thanks to detailed research, it is recognized as one unified structure. The finding was so significant that it has already been incorporated into the latest edition of Gray’s Anatomy, the world’s most respected medical textbook. While the mesentery’s main function is to anchor and support the intestines, scientists believe it plays far more complex roles that are still not fully understood. Its formal recognition has given rise to an entirely new field called mesenteric science. Researchers hope that studying this organ will unlock new insights into digestive diseases, abdominal disorders, and potentially lead to better treatments for millions of patients. This discovery is a powerful reminder that even today, the human body still holds remarkable secrets waiting to be uncovered.

This is possibly the worst crime in modern history. Two men "adopted" a baby. "A post mortem examination identified more than 30 external bruises, as well as internal bruising to his mouth and throat, internal bruising to his anus, bowel and bladder, lacerations to his anorectum, and a perforated bowel." "One medical expert gave evidence that a bruise on the baby’s bottom appeared to be a human bite mark." Think what this poor baby went through. The men who did this should be put to death. Men should not be able to buy babies. I know that this will cause some anguish to good men who have good intentions, but it's necessary to prevent this happening. This cannot happen again.

Given the state of this world, Jesus would be on that bus
Dresses up for church on Sundays and then posts this. Yeah, very Christian like.

Yep, that’s a 21-foot wooden boat being lifted over our house. My wife Emer built it over the last four-and-a-half years. I kid you not!

I really miss that whole part of Dublin. Used to love ambling around the park outside the Chester Beatty.

Every year I wait for June 16th. I first studied James Joyce's Ulysses in Syria... never imagining I'd one day celebrate Bloomsday in Dublin itself. Still gets me every time. Happy Bloomsday everyone. #Bloomsday #JamesJoyce #Ulysses
