When Maestro John Williams created the "Raiders March" for the film Raiders of the Lost Ark, Williams played just two distinct melodies on his piano for director Steven Spielberg in his home. Spielberg loved them both and suggested playing them together. Those two melodies became the main heroic theme and the musical bridge and John Williams spent several weeks working specifically on the Indiana Jones theme ("The Raiders March") in 1980. Meticulously piecing them together from two separate musical drafts, the music enveloped into a symphonic masterpiece. To put it in perspective, a standard 2-hour Hollywood feature, Williams' scoring process typically took about two to three months in total for Williams. Happy 45th anniversary to the greatest adventure film of all time !! RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, released on this date in 1981 it is simply Peak cinema. A brainchild of Lucas and Spielberg’s genius with the amazing Harrison Ford at the helm and backed by the incredible score and my personal favorite by Maestro John Williams, Raiders is an absolute masterpiece. One of my favorite scenes that gave me goosebumps then at 10 and tingles down my spine now in my 50’s is the map room. It’s an absolute fire cinematic moment and Harrison’s face just makes you smile along with him.
