FOUR people have died in the last SIX days in LA Sheriff’s custody. Four families forever changed just before Christmas.
Less than a month ago @LASDHQ were brought to the @LACountyBOS and claimed this crisis would be solved with iPads. It’s time to ACTUALLY close deadly MCJ✊🏾
38 deaths in 38 weeks and @LACountyBOS has still not presented a timeline to close the deadly Men’s Central Jail.
The County’s decision to invest in jails is fatal and tragic —and a deliberate choice given the alternatives to incarceration.
The jail conditions in LA have gotten so horrifically cruel that Attorney General Bonta has announced a lawsuit against the LA Sheriff's Department and the LA County.
As the lawsuits mount, LASD continues to defund taxpayers and amass record levels of deaths in their custody. 🧵
ICE's use of electronic monitoring has rapidly expanded.
Now, more than 200,000 people on any given day are regularly surveilled & detained by ICE – over 4x as many as a decade ago.
