6 years ago today, Cornelius Fredrick was was restrained by 6 staff members of Lakeside Academy after throwing a sandwich in the cafeteria. They laid on top of him for 10 minutes while Cornelius screamed “I can’t breathe” until he lost consciousness.

Very proud to be part of this beautiful group of folks. We are asking for the closure of Abraxas Academy, a facility that has long been subject to multiple abuse allegations. Abraxas Academy is currently taking money from the federal government to detain undocumented minors.
Last week, over 25 immigrant justice and youth justice groups signed on to our call to close Abraxas Academy, where migrants and PA youth are being held. Abraxas has had numerous allegations of unthinkable abuse and neglect. It is no place for any child!

As this article rightly notes, returning to failed policies of the past that lock up more kids for longer periods of time doesn't actually make our communities safe in the long run. Investment in communities and families does.
