We are a Blue Star Museum! Starting this Saturday (May 16) through Labor Day (September 7), active duty military and up to five family members will receive free admission to our museum by showing a valid military ID. We are open Monday-Saturday from 9:30am-4:30pm.

Today is #HigherEducationDay. President Carter gave many commencement addresses and received several honorary degrees. He delivered the commencement address at Notre Dame on May 22, 1977, where he received an honorary Doctor of Laws by Father Hesburgh, University President.

It's #WorldEnvironmentDay! Carter cared deeply about protecting the environment. One of his energy initiatives was installing solar panels on the roof of the WH to try to lower oil use. Ahead of his time, this gesture was designed to encourage investment in renewable energy.

On 6/4/76, Jimmy Carter stopped at Tony Packo's, a sausage shop on Front Street in Toledo, Ohio. They uniquely would have special visitors sign hot dog buns to hang on their walls. The only two surviving originals are Carter's (pictured) and future VP Walter Mondale's. #Carter50

The 6/3/1976 issue of Rolling Stone magazine ran Hunter S. Thompson's endorsement of Jimmy Carter for President as the cover story, depicted here. Thompson had known Carter for over two years by that point, and they remained friends until Thompson's death in 2005. #Carter50

Happy 85th birthday Bob Dylan! Dylan and Carter shared a close friendship that began in 1974, with Carter describing Dylan as one of his best friends. The bond, rooted in a mutual appreciation for songwriting and "kindred" spirits, lasted until Carter's passing.
