Todd McFarlane in the 90s was an artist
Todd McFarlane in 2026 is a business man
The former primarily cared about art
The latter is primarily concerned with modern capitalism’s bastardized definition of “efficiency”
And yeah, that’s a bit it a vaguepost, which I typically can’t stand. But I’m not about to share the Toddfather’s exhaustive, long-winded, diarrhea-of-the-mouth answer to his thoughts on AI in art spaces.
The cover for Transformers: ReAnimated Issue 83 was inspired by the cover for House of Mystery 265 by Michael Kaluta. Read how this all came together in today's post at: TransformersReAnimated.com

ALT The cover for Transformers REANIMATED issue 83 features a Mecannibal trapping Sunstreaker in his legs with scary teeth and eyes.
One thing from the comments in my “ai isn’t art” post that I’d like to address is the idea that I’m “gatekeeping”
That couldn’t be farther from the truth. I hope any person who has a desire to create art follows that drive and finds joy in the process.

When you feed your ideas into a machine it is spitting out something using only that which already exists. Nothing new. There is no heart or soul. No sparks of enlightenment. No true CREATION. Just regurgitation.
You used a machine to create an image. That image is not ART.

I’m sorry. I truly am. I’m not making the rules. I’m just stating the truth. I’m not gatekeeping the art world. I want everyone to make art.
Do what makes you happy. But ai images are not art. And feeding your ideas into a machine does not make you an artist.
