Black people make up 50% of all exonerations in the US, despite being 13.6% of the population. Black people are 7 times more likely to be wrongfully convicted of serious crimes (murder, sexual assault/drug offenses) than White individuals.

Kenneth Bullock, a 44-year-old Black man from Detroit, Michigan, walked free after spending over a decade behind bars for a carjacking he did NOT commit.
In 2011, a woman reported her Dodge Charger stolen at gunpoint. Bullock was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to 30-70 years in prison. He maintained his innocence the entire time.
This year, another man already in prison for murder confessed to the crime. The Wayne County Prosecutorβs Conviction Integrity Unit reviewed the case, and on May 28, 2025, all charges were dismissed. Kenneth is finally home with his family.
