Years in the making, out TOMORROW #OnceUponaRavensNest is the story of a working-class man, one Thomas Hedley of Exmoor, and of the planet during his lifetime, the period of its great acceleration towards the current climate emergency @QuercusBooks @riverrunbooks

The top 50 families have more wealth than half our population. If we taxed just 1% on the wealthiest 1%, the so-called black hole would be gone. #TaxTheRich #Budget2024 @UKLabour

There could be no greater indicator of the Government's commitment to its own decarbonisation targets than a Budget that increases bus fares by 50% while handing drivers another fuel duty freeze for the 15th year in a row.

Fuel duty staying frozen and discounted for another year, at 10 x what it would have cost to keep the £2 bus fare cap. Make it make sense 🤦 #Budget2024

The cost of capping bus fares at £2 would have been tiny compared with keeping the fuel duty freeze. We should be incentivizing public transport which would help reduce carbon emissions - rather than continuing with this regressive fuel duty cut. #AutumnBudget

Govt decision to keep regressive Tory fuel duty freeze & to choose to penalise bus users is utterly nonsensical. What happened to promoting public transport? And all the Green rhetoric? Cost of capping bus fares at £2 tiny compared with revenue lost through freeze #Budget2024

Pumping billions into dangerous & ineffective carbon capture tech is letting the fossil fuel lobby off the hook – we should be insulating homes , installing heat pumps and transitioning to EVs , not letting big industry skirt round the real solutions to hit net zero . . .

Dispiriting to see govt reviewing environmental protections to "ensure that regulation... is driving economic growth." We need to ensure that regulations protect wildlife, stop shit flooding our rivers & prevent nature dying: @SteveReedMP @DanRCorry gov.uk/government/news/dan-c…

The images that I see coming out of Gaza each day—of shredded children, piles of twisted corpses, dehumanisation in torture camps, people being burned alive—are morally indistinguishable from the images I have seen in Holocaust museums. Pure evil on a horrifying scale.

I am deeply sickened by @UKLabour saying they will sweep away regulation. Regulation makes markets work, protects the weak from abuse, ends cheating, ensures fair employment practices and protects consumers. What don’t they like about those things?

Such a relief that there’s no climate crisis so these developments can go ahead without concern & without undermining commitments to being the greenest government ….

Aspirational parents struggling to pay VAT on public school fees should just borrow the money at 8% compound interest for the rest of their lives. Like millions of working-class students have to.

Staring into this hypnotic eye reveals a nightmarish future paid for by decades of cowardly & corrupt leadership, grotesque overconsumption & wilful ignorance. And this is just the beginning. We transform society & adapt like crazy, or we lose everything.

I’m shocked … well not really. For decades now fossil fuel executives have hollowed out the integrity, intelligence & independence of repeated governments. This is why we desperately need robust, cogent & caring politicians (& yes they do exist) to be in ministerial positions.
It's now looking increasingly like the UK govt's £22bn CCS plan was the net result of multiple ministerial meetings with oil company representatives. desmog.com/2024/10/07/uks-22…

Mick Lynch wants a progressive wealth tax with the richest paying the same as everyone else on PAYE, 47%. That would bring in hundred of billions, it is time for the richest to pay what everyone else has been paying their whole lives.

Imagine if the £22bn was invested instead in a nationwide programme to upgrade housing with insulation & heatpumps - demonstrable, proven emissions reductions - reduced reliance on gas - more jobs, nationwide - lower fuel bills - warmer homes, less pressure on NHS
