Two things happen when you move a bookcase. 1) You end up with more books and less space 2) You find books that you have no idea why you have them. "The Big House and the Little House" presented by the teachers of North Scotswood Sabbath School Sept 4th 1887

I occasionally get accused by my wife of having too many books (clearly an illogical concept) but having had to move a bookcase for the painter, I've rediscovered "The Miners' Manual" by Atherley-Jones from 1882...which I had forgotten owning. Another treasure

Out for coffee in neighbouring Chiltern town. Couple on next table "He mightn't make it, he's jiggered" My Ashingtonian wife leans over "where you from?" Pegswood, school in Ashington (transformed his life). Lives half a mile from us. Like Geordie magnets

Obviously public opinion is vitally important but virtually every commentator & the destabilisers in Labour have forgotten that Starmer is PM of a major country during various global crises. We need good government not good opinion polls. There's no Churchill waiting in the wings

To use modern parlance, the final boss of tautological place-names in the UK is Lake Semerwater in Yorkshire. Old French lac (lake) Old Eng. sæ (sea, lake) mere (lake) wæter (water, lake) Middle Eng. lac Semerwater Modern Eng. Lake Semerwater Meaning - "Lake Lake Lake Lake"

Hanwell Town is a West London based Football Club with proud North East roots, founded back in 1920 by Geordies working on the local railway and waterworks, bringing their love for Newcastle United with them, so they still play in black and white today! Nicknamed The Geordies

Can somebody @LloydsBank explain why I cannot transfer money from my current account to my ISA? Same branch, money is there, I've banked there for 58 years, "Error" then Customer Chat Line tells me as if I'm an idiot how to do transfers. as I've been doing every week for years

My dad died 25 years ago today a PROPER man's man. Family always came first. Worked hard, 4 years in India in WW2, school governor, charity volunteer, many, many friends. Politics, sports, the pub, but anything for the family. I'm drinking the millennium whisky he couldn't.

Polanski unveils his "Trade Union Czar." Bent solicitor, landlord with 80 tenants, 13 premises raided involving 7 police forces. Ten's of millions missing from members fees. Not even Zack the hypnotherapist can make you believe in this crook.

I know it's easy to criticize Starmer from all the wings of British/Russian/Trumpian politics, but his position of differentiating between Trump's unthinking war of aggression/deflection and the essential defence of our country seems....sensible

As a follow up to other stories on here, I have discovered that one of the naval engagements my Holy Island family member, Commander James Lilburn, fought in was 1811 off Normandy & his ship (Goshawk) was alongside The Hotspur, commanded by Jocelyn Percy! @northumbriana @JHCPAL

I sometimes worry about how much of myself is picked up by the media. I've just completed the New York Times Deluxe Waffle puzzle, and "it's" response was "Canny effort". Is there a Geordie in the @nytimes offices
