CMPD's statement regarding the RBP shooting: On Sunday, June 14, around midnight, multiple officers were working in the area of Romare Bearden Park and were actively enforcing the City of Charlotte’s Curfew Ordinance when they heard multiple gunshots and responded to the location. Officers quickly located and began initial treatment for two subjects found to have sustained gunshot wounds. Officers then also quickly located and apprehended suspects related to the incident. MEDIC responded and transported the victims to local hospitals. (CODE SPEAK - "related" which means not necessarily the shooters).

The MCSO is currently holding 2071 fulltime inmates plus another nearly 100 in various stages of processing. It's crowded and reports are that the A/C is not working in at least one section of the jail. More than 300 of these inmates are subject to current ICE Detainers and most of those have administrative warrants for deportation. One of those is HECTOR ZELEYA ANTONIO ZELAYA age 19, he's charged with 2 counts of ROBBERY WITH DANGEROUS WEAPON, crimes committed in 2024 Mr. Zelaya's home address is listed as 301 BILLINGSLEY RD. CHARLOTTE, NC 28211 which is the Mecklenburg County Health Department. Zelaya has been held at taxpayer expense since October of 2024. Arrested as a juvenile and now transferred to adult jail. A jury trial is set for December of 2026. This is just nuts. Why not just dismiss the charges and deliver his happy ass to ICE/CBP and let them deal with this POS. Even if he's found guilty a Meck County judge will give him no more than a slap on the wrist and credit for time served. There are likely 200 other cases just like this at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center with garbage just like this sucking in air taking up space in an already crowded jail.
