Today, Germany and Curaçao are kicking off the first of seven World Cup games that Houston will host between now and July 4th – that's like hosting seven Super Bowls in less than three weeks. As part of our gameplan for today, and every match taking place in our city, we’re activating our Emergency Operations Center. We’ll stay activated from two hours before kickoff of each match until two hours after the final whistle blows.

Kick-off is tomorrow for the first of seven World Cup games Houston is hosting. To help our great city prepare for this global event, we’re taking to the skies with cutting-edge drone technology to inspect poles, lines and other equipment near the official FIFA Fan Fest. It’s one of the many actions CenterPoint is taking to help ensure our grid is ready before the first fans take their seats or a ball is kicked. Enjoy the games, everyone!

The CenterPoint Energy Foundation is proud to support Wharton County and the people making a difference across the community. For the first time, two students from Wharton ISD’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America program are advancing to the national competition in Washington, D.C. this July. A $6,000 grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation is helping make their trip possible and allowing them to represent Wharton County on a national stage. We also presented two community safety grants to the Wharton County Volunteer Fire Department for protective vests and Wharton County EMS for a portable ultrasound machine. Supporting first responders with critical equipment strengthens response capabilities and enhances safety across the community.
