Pastors, this Sunday is one of those Sundays where you break away from whatever you’re teaching and speak to recent events. Preaching one topic while the whole congregation is preoccupied with another, is bad shepherding. Meet your people where they need it. And don’t be soft.

Is anyone else struggling to understand why Charlie Kirk’s death feels heavier than so many other tragedies? I can’t explain why it’s hitting me this hard.

Like all of you, I am utterly stunned and heartbroken and sick to my soul today. It is unimaginable to write these words. I met Charlie Kirk when he was 18 years old, a young man so eager and determined that I immediately turned to a friend and said, “That kid is going to be the head of the RNC one day.” Charlie became even bigger and more important than that. It was a privilege to watch this principled man stand up for his beliefs and create the single most important conservative political organization in America. But more importantly, Charlie was a good man, a man who believed in right and wrong, who stood by his Biblical values. All of us will miss him, and I can’t imagine the pain of his beautiful young family, and we must all pray for them. And we must pick up the baton where Charlie left it, fighting for the things he believed in so passionately. And we must fight for a better America - an America where good people can speak truth and debate passionately without fear of a bullet. I weep for Charlie’s family, and I weep for my country today. Most of all, I weep for Charlie.

Thank you for your strong witness for Christ @charliekirk11. Thank you for pursuing truth and leading your family as a husband and father. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

Socials always flood with grief when tragedy strikes, with endless declarations about how the world is collapsing. Yet almost no one pauses to confront the harder question: in the last week, the last month, the last year......what have I actually done to make this world better? The few who dare to ask themselves often find the silence unbearable. Because it’s far easier to talk, to blame, to point at the system or the law, than to confront one’s own inertia. Outrage feels like participation, but it changes nothing. The world doesn’t bend through commentary or legislation. It shifts only through the weight of human action, through the rare individual willing to move beyond words.
