#OTD #CivilWar hero Thomas Cass was born in Queens County, Ireland, and 8 months later emigrated to
#Boston's NorthEnd. A popular civic, business militia leader, he was chosen by Governor John Andrew to lead the
#Massachusetts #irish 9th regiment in June, 1861. Cass was mortally wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill, Virginia, on July 1, 1862, and brought back to
#Boston, where he died. Visit his statue in Boston Public Garden along the
#irishheritagetrail and a plaque at The Prado in the North End from his neighbors.
