Delighted to be en route to a dinner in Edinburgh with @JohnSwinney and @guyverhofstadt, organised by @euromovescot. This could be a key event for the future of #scotlandineurope

Baroness Hayter passionately summarises what this law would mean for dying people: 'This bill is not about people choosing to die. They are dying. This bill is about helping them make those final days easier for those who so choose. It is about dying people who want a loved one with them, because this bill is allowing that.'

Amazing AGM of @TheWineSociety - something like 1500 people involved! The Committee's passion for the Society's status as a mutual is outstanding. Alan Black (Chair) says it takes up to two years for new Committee members really to understand the mutual concept in their soul!

Very helpful tweets from @dignityindying on the 3rd Reading Debate today on the E&W Bill for assisted dying. Although this Bill will not directly apply in Scotland, it will be very helpful for the Scottish Bill. For Christian arguments in Scotland see scfad.org.uk

As a young doctor, I found assisted dying totally unconscionable. But, now that I'm an old doctor, I feel sure that it's an essential change.

🧡Seeking asylum is a human right. Refugees are not threats: they are our sisters and brothers in Christ fleeing violence or persecution. 📢This #RefugeeWeek we call for compassion and for a humane asylum system where no one is driven to make perilous journeys in small boats.

Good to have a presentation at @CharityLawAssoc by @Saffa_Mir of Pennington Manches Cooper and trustee of @muslimcharities specifically on faith charities. Quite a lot of charity people seem uncomfortable about faith-based charities so glad the CLA is giving a clear focus.

Hooray! Ben Harrison (Head of Charity Law at @DCMS) confirms they are finally planning to update the E&W charity accounting regs for new Charities #SORP 2026. It is scandalous that the E&W regulations were never updated for last SORP. @CharityLawAssoc

Two very different charity meetings today of orgs where I am a member: Scottish @Grantmakers this morning and @CharityLawAssoc now. Both online, but I was encouraged that CLA gave the option of meeting in person: there was a real buzz!

Replying to @ProfTimJackson
@proftimjackson is speaking here in Edinburgh about health economic decisions with no devolution context mentioned. He talks about decisions by @wesstreeting and Dept of Health with no comment that this is England only. Scotland is much stronger on wellbeing economy. #EICClive

His comments are profound and I am glad that @davidhumeinst has invited him to Edinburgh, but I was just a bit surprised at this focus. #EICClive

There is huge public support for law change on assisted dying. As a nation, we recognise the cruelty of banning choice and criminalising compassion. It's time for change. #YesToDignity

“I think it was a massive comfort for him, knowing that he would be able to have that control at the end and die on his own terms.” This is the benefit of assisted dying - the option being there gives people peace of mind and allows them to make the most of the time they have left. express.co.uk/news/uk/204675…

This is a slightly odd format, I feel, @davidhumeinst with @ProfTimJackson just being interviewed with no obvious structure. Much better, I suggest, to invite him to give a talk with his own slides and structure (with audience Q&A at end). #EICCLive
