Providing back pay to former employees, in addition to current ones, sets WJAR apart from WPRI, which hasn't done so, according to people who used to work there. WPRI parent company Nexstar declined to comment Monday on whether it's changed course.

There’s a lot to say here but @ChelseaJonesTV sums it up perfectly. "With the state of our economy, more pay would've certainly helped me financially," Jones said. "They didn't get it right for me but I hope they make it right for those that come behind me.”

Disappointing that this was discovered after so many reporters worked every day during the height of the pandemic. That's a lot of Sunday pay that was avoided.
