Introducing our last #cheneyreads books of the months of the year. Thank you to @mazauthor and @kayvionclewis for two awesome new books. I'm half way through one (loving it) and can't wait to read the other! #lovereading
Wednesday is DEAR day at Cheney when everyone picks up their book to read. This week we're also recognising #antibullyingweek and the positive impact that developing empathy through reading can have. #readforempathy#empathylab#cheneyreads
Thank you so much to Femi Fadugba, author of #TheUpperWorld for speaking to our year 10 students yesterday. We learnt all about how science thinking can turn into creative thinking. An inspirational hour, enjoyed by everyone. #sciencefiction#cheneyreads
I read Between The Lines by @malcolmduffyUK this weekend. A fantastic read that will appeal to lots of our @cheneyreads students. Great that #dyslexia is highlighted in a constructive way and I was really invested in the male characters.
@malcolmduffyUK is a new author for me (I found him through the @EmpathyLabUK list. I think his books will be great for our students - I'm off to read Sofa Surfer next. Really great to find a new voice. Hurrah!
The May #cheneyreads Book of the Month for year 9 is The Eternal Return of Clara Hart by @LouFinchWrites. I'm telling anyone who'll listen to read this book. Really clever and so satisfying at the end. What a fantastic debut novel!
Easter read #4: Medusa by Jessie Burton. A beautiful retelling of the Greek myth. Really readable, refreshingly short (why are so many books over-long???) and achingly wonderful. Strongly recommended! #cheneyreads@kidsbloomsbury
Easter read #3: The Night Animals by @sarahannjuckes. The book explores the effect that PTSD and mental health issues can have on a whole family. A gentle, subtle and unusual story. Thoughtful too and extremely likeable characters. #cheneyreads
My second Easter read recommendation is The Eternal Return of Clara Hart. A slow burn but a truly impactful story. A fantastic debut - I can think of lots of #cheneyreads students who will eat this up! #YotoCarnegies23 @LouFinchWrites
The sixth form #cheneyreads book of the month for March is On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong. This has been on my tbr pile for some time. It's now moved up the list - I can't wait (it's a recommendation from a student too)! #toomanygreatbooks
The #cheneyreads KS4 March book of the month is The Butterfly Assassin by @FinnLongman. A real rollercoaster read that keeps you guessing. Strongly recommended for anyone who likes a page turner but also a story that has resonance and empathy.
