Detroit was once one of the 3 wealthiest cities in America, 3.2 MILLION people strong. Today? 587,000 residents. Highest poverty rate. 80% unemployment in key age groups. 6th highest murder rate. Telling the truth isn’t “hurting feelings.” It’s acknowledging reality so we can FIX it. Detroit deserves better and America does too. 🇺🇸

I cannot begin to tell you how disturbing this trend is. In my tenure as Chief we went from a roughly 20% compliance rate with 2 Federal Consent Decrees (after 7 years of oversight) to 90% compliance in two years. The Trump DOJ could not give a damn about pattern and practice cases. This is concerning.

Not paying attention to lawsuits as a gauge for shaping and reforming policy caused DPD to be placed under 2 Federal Consent Decrees in the past. How quickly we forget. It’s irresponsible not to be a better steward over the citizens tax dollars and to downplay its significance.
