Sometimes I think about returning to academia. Working through three degrees seems like a huge waste of time sometimes and the bulk of my free time is still spent engaging with history in some way. Then I remember that people like @marybeard are held up as shining examples of academic excellence, and I remain eternally grateful I made the decision to walk away and actually retain my sanity.

I can’t be the only one thinking this but the current #GodOfWarLauffey stuff got me thinking. So Laufey and Cere from Jedi fallen order. Played by Deborah Ann Woll and Debra Wilson respectively. And is it just me or are their facial proportions just … off? It’s more noticeable on Debra Wilson probably because the software used to map her face is older but lighting doesn’t change the shape of someone’s entire head nor make them strangely goggle eyed. And it definitely doesn’t push their jaw back to give them more of an overbite and extend their philtrum. Again you could argue angles and lighting but I angles and lighting just don’t do that they’ve definitely altered the size and shape of facial features. It’s not as pronounced on Laufey but it’s still noticeable that her eyes have been increased in size and her head narrowed while her mouth position has been moved on her face. It might the angle but I’m fairly sure they’ve altered the size and shape of her nose as well. I wonder why video game studios do this? There’s nothing wrong with either actress they’re both fairly easy on the eyes, so why remix their features when you’ve gone out of your way to cast them and model the character on them? Just comes off as a distracting and bizarre design choice.

For no reason here’s a picture of a beautiful thing. The de Havilland DH-88 Comet, a racer and record setting plane from 1934. This is a replica since there were only five of these ever built and they had rough lives breaking records and winning intercontinental air races. The one this ones based on won the London to Sydney MacRobertson Air Race in 70 hours 55 minutes, which for a piston driven prop plane is practically war speed. And isn’t it just a stunning looking machine. Practically a work of art.

Cleaning out the parents garage for them and holy fuck! Buried treasure! 4 lead Wytches and a complete Hellion from 3rd ed! I must have bought these things in either 98 or 99 and just forgotten about them. Shame the Wytch squad isn’t complete but there’s a couple more boxes of my old stuff in there so you never know what might pop up. Also found a complete box of Bretonnians in there which is really confusing, I never collected Brets, I was always a high Elf fan. Sadly that army is long gone.

Painted with @thearmypainter speed paint range. I’m pretty happy with some aspects of it, andors gotten to the point corrections would = more mistakes. Next thing I dig out of the bitz box I think I’ll try a mix of traditional acrylics and speed paints.
