Fun and unusual, Celtuce or Asparagus Lettuce (Lactuca sativa var. asparagina) are cool-season, cold-tolerant, stalk-forming greens with lettuce-like leaves to harvest as they develop. The stalk is edible, with uses similar to asparagus when eaten sliced and raw, blanched, steamed, or as a vegetarian ingredient in stir-fry or other Asian dishes. The taste of leaves is similar to and may be substituted for Romaine lettuce. Wait until late summer to early autumn to plant as a succession crop that follows earlier spring and summer plantings.🌿
