I have launched #TheBigFuture survey, for all children in England to tell me what it’s like to be a child today - changes they want to see in their communities, their biggest concerns & future hopes. Children and young people can take part here👇 childrenscommissioner.gov.uk…

Should we ban u16s from social media? Let’s reset the debate: don’t ban children, ban companies from harming them. Kids tell me these spaces matter, but they’re addictive unsafe. Services should prove they’re safe before accessing u18s. ✍️ @politicshome politicshome.com/opinion/art…

Today @Rachel_deSouza told @CommonsEd and @CommonsHealth about children’s worries and wellbeing. On #TheBigFuture visits, children raise concerns about the cost of living, jobs and the online world, and are more open than in 2021 about what makes them happy or upset.

Great to see the impact of @CurveLeicester Little Curve and Shine programme this morning, helping young people build confidence through drama and creativity. Every child deserves opportunities to express themselves, build connections and thrive through the arts.🎭

Wonderful to be shown around @NottmPlayhouse & hear about the importance of creativity & the 200 different roles that bring theatre to life. When discussing #TheBigFuture, children were clear they wanted to be kept safe both online and in their community, with fun things to do.

A consultation on children's screen time has begun, which will help shape the first official guidance for parents of five to 16-year-olds. Children's Commissioner Dame Rachel de Souza says the guidance must cover 'risky features in gaming' and cutting down on screen time.

Great to speak with Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at @WelbeckPS about #TheBigFuture and the importance of community cohesion. It was inspiring to hear their thoughtful ideas on managing screen time, staying safe online, and building positive connections in their communities

Children and adults want clear, trustworthy guidance on screen use - as well action on explicit and harmful content. I’m pleased to be co-chairing a panel with Prof Russell Viner to develop guidance for 5–16s, building on our advice for under 5s.

This week, I sat with primary-aged children across different schools in Birmingham. A child, when asked about improving her area, told me all about how they were concerned about the state of Birmingham’s refuse collection.    Another child chimed in: ‘Well, my Dad’s been on strike.’ These are the sort of opposing views that we worry about causing strife or friction in children’s lives. But they rose to this conversation magnificently. They discussed their perspectives. The conversation continued. 👇🏻 childrenscommissioner.gov.uk…

Children are clear with me - they are sceptical about a ban, but are crying out for action on online harms. I'm calling for all online services with harmful features to be barred for under-18s until they prove they protect children’s safety and wellbeing. childrenscommissioner.gov.uk…

Grateful to @LDBSSchools for having me to their Wisdom in a Wired World conference today to talk about how children feel growing up in the shadow of the online world - from freedom to loneliness & everything in between. Good to see my former Y7 pupil Imran from Stepney in 1994 and now an Assistant Head at the same school 🧡🧡👇🏻

My data shows more than 1,000 children spent over a year in hospital. The @MediCinema at Birmingham Children’s Hospital brings joy, normality and a chance to be with family and friends. It was the perfect spot to hear from children about health and care for #TheBigFuture survey.

Always a privilege to meet the children receiving treatment @Bham_Childrens and the fantastic nurses and professionals caring for them. Today it was good to speak with Maya and Bilal who have had long stays and a whole life time of visits every two months about their experiences 🧡
