Illinois continues to set the standard for opportunity, equity, and safety in the adult legal cannabis industry. Today, I’m signing legislation to ban the sale of intoxicating hemp to those under 21 to protect our kids, streamlining licensing, and strengthening oversight.

Regulators have acknowledged concerns about hidden ownership arrangements in the cannabis industry. The agency says it pushed for language in a bill awaiting Gov. JB Pritzker’s signature that’s designed to crack down on undisclosed ownership interests and clarify the difference between management agreements and ownership stakes.

Fascinating how many psychedelic organizations have been hyping up Colorado’s Ibogaine Pilot program without mentioning that the bill also included an 11th hour amendment that stripped key psychedelic decriminalization protections that voters themselves approved in 2022.

Cannabis arrest rates are higher in Illinois than any other legalization state. Illinois also recorded a higher cannabis arrest rate per capita than 3 states that continue to prohibit adult-use cannabis: Hawaii, Florida, and New Hampshire.

The Illinois General Assembly recently voted to pass a proposal that would double the states cannabis possession limit for residents and non-residents. Why does the concept of a possession limit exist? Who are we protecting?

Thanks for the respect, same to you. The question really is do you wanna fall out of the fifth story Window or the ninth? Both can be pretty bad.

As always, well said, Justin! It was interesting to hear IL lawmakers discuss increasing possession limits during the recent legislative session. The rationale for raising the limits was to keep purchases in-state rather than to advance civil liberties in the spirit of decrim
Decriminalization of #cannabis is almost always limited to possession, and it's a crock. Like a parent telling a child it's ok to go to a party but not ok to use any means of transportation to get there.

I support higher possession limits (and eliminating them all together), but the focus of these conversations should be on expanding individual freedom, not boosting in-state sales.

It seems like a lot of our state regulations were “shaped by worst-case scenarios of illicit growers rather than current farm practices”
Cannabis We need to think about optimizing and restraining the illicit market, because we’ll never eliminate it. How about tolerating sales of flower with a noninternet supply chain where people trust one another to the point of risking fines?
