ALT Remind me: what’s a crisis pregnancy center? Ever seen those pamphlets or billboards that say “Scared? Pregnant? Get help!”? That was probably a crisis pregnancy center (CPC). They’re fake health clinics that present themselves as doctor’s offices — when the only thing they’re generally equipped to do is shame and scare people looking to access reproductive health care.

ALT Can we hold organizations accountable for lying? Crisis pregnancy centers’ whole gig is based on lying to pregnant people to scare and bully them from accessing the reproductive health care they need. That’s what First Choice Women’s Resource Centers (a CPC) was doing when New Jersey started investigating them for violating state consumer fraud laws.

ALT So what does this have to do with companies lying? As part of their investigation into First Choice’s potential fraud, the New Jersey Attorney General subpoenaed a bunch of their records. First Choice claimed the investigation violated their First Amendment rights.
