OTD in 1983, Sunday 5th June.
It's Coalville Depot Open Day, but a quick run to Nottingham behind these two had to be taken first - it would've been rude not to!
(20072 & 075 waiting time at Derby with 1E28, 0856 to Skegness).
0 points for quality but this is the only photo I ever took within the confines of Dunfermline Townhill depot, which wasn't an easy one to get a permit for BITD. Anyway, it was Easter Sunday, 6th April 1980 and 20220 was stabled outside the shed.

An everyday sight from my mis-spent youth - 20157 & 190 trundling down the Erewash Valley past Langley Mill on 3rd April 1980, with the output from one of the pits further up the line.

Nottingham, 30th August 1983 and the railway is having a bit of a meltdown. 20070 & 143 have been declared a failure & removed from 1E04, the 0937 Derby - Skegness relief, to be replaced by 20084 & 135. Just as a nearby point motor spontaneously combusts...🔥
#FailuresOnFriday
Biit of a ropey one this, but for the record Derby No.4 shed still had a steam age water column in 1983, where 20134 was stabled on 17th May.

Porto is where you can also find Class 1400 English Electric diesels, based on our class 20 but with a more powerful version of the 8CSVT engine. Here is 1454 waiting to depart with a Douro valley service, which we travelled on.
