In the world of opera, this is known as "Eurotrash" - deliberately goofy productions with nudity and violence designed to alienate the audience. This has been going on for around 50 years.

It appears that this "conservative" comic strip has reached the point where it's fantasizing about killing FEMA workers

What the hell was going on with Vance's makeup during the debate?

As a long time Californian, there are way fewer blackouts now than when I was young. Last time I remember a serious blackout was around 4 years ago during a big storm. Comcast is down way more frequently than the power.

Trump: California, they have blackouts and brownouts every single day.

I don't get this. This dude bought a small $200 shopping cart to use at the grocery store. Why?? They have better carts at the store that you can use for free! You don't even have to dissemble them and put them back in the trunk.

OK, I looked it it up and it's more designed for businesses and such to move stuff around office supplies and not necessarily a grocery cart

The inclusion of a Robbie Williams song immediately reveals this to be a British wedding. Knowing who Williams is sort of a shibboleth for Britishness

C'mon people, these songs were hits 15 years apart, - Rocket 88 was 1951 and a huge hit. Who Do You Love was 1956, and was utterly bizarre. Kids were not listening to the Chordettes in 1960

As someone who remembers the late 70s and early 80s, this is one of the most wrong tweets I've seen. Most people didn't smoke in front of their kids. But I saw a lot of bongs and hookahs sitting on people's coffee tables back then. Pot was pretty much everywhere.

My mother was very opposed to coke and junk, though.

Hate to spoil everyone's fun, but I've always heard these shorts used techniques that would be considered animal cruelty today, such as attaching piano wire to the dogs to make them walk around on their hind feet, etc
⚠️TRIGGER WARNING⚠️ the following footage includes scenes of intense terror and graphic imagery not suitable for younger or impressionable followers Dogville Comedies - Who Killed Rover? 1930 / United States / Jules White & Zion Myers 😱sound on😱

Wait... back in the 60s did the auctionees actually go to the other families houses? Can't imagine that would fly today. When I was in high school, it was a 'only on school premises' kind of deal.

The best acts on the bill are Deftones, Boss Hog, Royal Trux and (presumably) Foo Fighters. The one time we went to see them Dave was sick. Also Calexico, Dirty Three and QOTSA are good

It's not a problem now, but a number of critics didn't like the cast. Lehr, Haley and Bolger were well known vaudevillian performers who basically did their regular shtick in Oz. Imagine Adam Sandler being cast as Samwise in LOTR and doing it in the Happy Madison voice.
THE WIZARD OF OZ was released 85 years ago today. One of the most influential movies ever made, and the film that catapulted the career of Hollywood icon Judy Garland, the story of how it was made will have you heading for the yellow brick road… 1/58
