Two Estonian citizens who sought asylum in Russia were sent for psychiatric evaluation
In winter, they crossed Lake Peipus over the ice and asked for political asylum in Russia. Instead, they ended up in a detention center.
Russia seemed like a paradise to them — but reality turned out very different from TV propaganda.
One of them, 25-year-old Danil, said he moved because of the “ban on the Russian language in schools” and job problems in Estonia.
Despite requesting international protection, a court in the Pskov region arrested him for illegal border crossing.
According to Danil, after the evaluation he was declared “insane or mentally ill,” which he категорически denies.
He also described harsh conditions in detention: it’s cold, there’s no toilet paper, mice run around, and in the psychiatric hospital they give injections without explanation.
