Late night watch of Haneke’s Cache - a superlative exploration of guilt both personal & national - drenched in voyeurism both narratively & stylistically, has spurred me onto the fourth and final 🧵 on voyeurism & film, here we go:
Talk about starting your day right with a KILLER double-bill… quintessential Sunday morning viewing… 😂 & long overdue first-time watches #angst#LucioFulci#giallo
After a bit of a hiatus from here (in large part due to work, getting married, honeymooning etc), it’s a tad ironic that last night’s watch made me want to take to twitter again…
Rather than being too long, I felt it was too short. With great potential as a limited series, fleshing out the matrix of abuse which forms the underdeveloped core of the film &exploring the implications of the third act’s “twist” (hardly the shock the film seems to think it is)
Instead what we are left with is a shiny yet shallow film as superficial as the world it presents. Meta in ways which, overall, do not fulfil their potential. A missed opportunity but one which is undeniably well-wrought with great set design, costume, a killer soundtrack& score
Overjoyed at how well this film went down last night. It really is one to see big, loud and with a crowd. So strange and distinctive, but genuinely brilliant. Thanks to @ThePCCLondon cinemagoers for taking a chance on it.
Last night was immense. Thank you to everyone who came to our screening of ON-GAKU: OUR SOUND at @ThePCCLondon! And thanks to the great @iwaityawa for sending us his director's introduction to this wild, crazy, amazing film. 🎸🎸🥁
Fantastic evening of #anime presented by @ghibliotheque at @ThePCCLondon : On-Gaku, surely the punk-iest anime ever. Replete with musical references and so, as a bonus, that’s today’s playlist sorted then…
Another great pick from the @ghibliotheque guys with their regular anime screenings at @ThePCCLondon. This month: On-Gaku, a film which definitively states that dudes do, indeed, rock 🎸🥁
Given that my aim last year was to re-visit classics and fill in some of my more glaring omissions. I’d say mission largely accomplished. Excited to see what this year brings #Letterboxd#YearInReview
Get a clear look at today’s list. What’s the Mount Rushmore of movie scenes involving a window?
Die Hard
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Rear Window
Titanic
We had to leave off some iconic scenes. That was tough.
