As expected, Canada escalated, Trump followed suit, and now Carney is walking back his statements. Expect a new deal to be signed between US and Canada before June 30. This agreement will either limit trade with China or give US control over Canada/China trade.
Mark Carney responds to Donald Trump's threat of 100% tariffs:
"We have commitments under CUSMA not to pursue free trade agreements with non-market economies without prior notification. We have no intention of doing that with China or any other non-market economy."

Carney isn’t stupid. He’s managing his own defeat. He flies to China to standup for Canada. Comes back with empty promises. US threatens section 232. Carney capitulates because now his constituents can see there was no other option.
