Related to our 2021 NASA STTR on site preparation. Grateful to work with Phil on these and many other innovations over the years.
I was just notified the US Patent Office awarded this patent on a lunar construction technology. It is a method to reduce the energy for sintering lunar soil into a concrete-like material. My hypothesis was that magnetic and microwave susceptibilities should be correlated, since magnetic loss tangent is one of the mechanisms of microwave absorption in minerals. Lunar soil is a mixture of both magnetic and non-magnetic minerals, so magnetic sorting should create isolates that absorb microwaves either more or less, and these isolates can be laid down in layers of varying absorptive to control the depths of microwave power absorption. This is needed to obtain uniform sintering to deeper depths without making the top so hot that it begins vacuum vaporization, AND without wasting excess power at deeper depths. The hypothesis turned out to be correct. Experiments with @cislune proved deep energy and cost savings.

The rover wheel testbed shown here is part of the Exolith Lab and is available for companies to use (reimbursing direct costs). We used it in a recent project with @cislune funded by NASA, "Refuse-To-Get-Stuck Rovers."
Some solid advice from @UCFSciences Knight Researcher @JaredLongFox, a NSTGRO Fellowship recipient. "Even failures in science teach you something, so it is a success and the fact that you generate knowledge". @FSI_Orlando YouTube Link: youtu.be/TslWsziaJ9I
