Iām deeply moved to have been appointed to House of Lords. The NHS has shaped my life, work, & values. itās where I learned what care, compassion, & public service truly mean. I hope to carry that spirit forward in this new role, speaking up for patients & health professionals
The BMA opposed the NHS at its founding. Now, with more strikes planned, it risks hastening its collapse. Every delay and cancelled op strengthens those who argue the NHS no longer works. We must fight for the NHS ā not just for ourselves.
Tomorrow is my debut at @edinfringeguide - 50 minutes to save the #nhs. @RCSEd 1-2pm you think defending PAās is stressful. Try doing stand up comedy with @drphilhammond
'I'm there as the Wise to his Morecambe, the Laurel to his Hardy. Iāll be the voice of reason and evidence, and heāll be trying to demolish it.'
@ClareGerada and @drphilhammond sat down with Pulse to explain why they're performing at the Edinburgh Fringe

Great. Important to also engage with GPs. We have for too long been forgotten. Without us the #nhs cannot deliver what it needs to for our patients, communities and tax payer.
I have spoken to the BMA junior doctors committee, and can announce that talks to end their industrial action will begin next week.
We promised to get negotiations up and running and that is what we are doing.

So enjoying being a grandmother. Seeing a baby learn something new every week and beginning to gain more and more control of their body and environment is sheer joy (and very messy!)
I wish the incoming government would review the massive proliferation of statutory bodies which inspect, monitor, regulate and investigate health care staff. Yet not a single one to address their emotional and well being needs.
Any new Government has a moral duty to care for those who care for us. This means addressing causes of suffering; workload, loss of ābelongingā , lack of flexibility in training, lack of careers advise from start to finish, lack of time to care/think, as well as pay & conditions.
British MPs are attacking abortion rights. We canāt follow the same path as the US> excellent piece. We must all fight to preserve the rights we have. theguardian.com/commentisfreā¦
