Dear old Scoop - the most fiercely-loyal man you could ever wish to meet. He stood in my corner when it was needed most and I will never forget the support he always gave me. He would always say he didn’t have any family, but he did. The Charlton family… #cafc

"Feargal Sharkey brands '£100billion' cost of nationalising water 'nonsense'." And that is because it is nonsense, pure unadulterated, made up nonsense. mirror.co.uk/news/feargal-sh…

We had NHS dentists, and free education, we owned Rail, Mail, Telecoms, Water, Energy, Steel and Ship Building, Social housing was built, and we owned care homes. All of this was stolen to allow the rich to rob us forever for using essential services.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of much-loved journalist & former Press Officer Peter ‘Scoop’ Burrowes at the age of 87, following a short battle with cancer. A Charlton legend in his own right & key member of the Charlton family, he will be dearly missed. #cafc

Mike Keil, CEO of @CCWvoice, went on Water Magazine to discuss collapsed trust. CCW is funded through the water-bill system. His answer? Better communication. He does not speak for consumers. He should resign. youtube.com/watch?v=2lXLWMlF…

You'll want to be sitting down for this bit. Water companies are currently £82.7 billion in debt, have paid themselves £85 billion in dividends, leak over a trillion of litres of water per year, dump sewage for almost 4 million hours per year, have been convicted of over 1,200 criminal acts since 1989 and an average of 35% of your bill goes on nothing but paying more interest and yet more dividends. And not a single company has ever lost their operating licence. 👇
Yorkshire Water and Northumbrian Water have nearly 200 criminal convictions between them. On 6 August 2024, Ofwat fined them £47m and £17m for sewage dumping. Fines not paid, will not be paid. Firms claim to have invested. No penalty for abusing laws leftfootforward.org/2026/01/…

Water UK says water companies won’t treat whole classes of pollutants because it is not legally required. The big NGOs say no new laws are needed. That is functional alignment. Stop the soft-ask scam. Update the law. #EndSewagePollution @RiverActionUK @sascampaigns @WaterUK

The Great British supermarket farmwashing scandal. Giving off the impression of food being from British farms, but the food is often not from Britain, but from overseas. It’s time to end supermarket farmwashing that cons shoppers into thinking they are buying British farm food, when it’s foreign food. It’s not just a con. It hurts British farmers by consumers being tricked into buying foreign food rather than British food. It’s time for clear country of origin labelling on all supermarket food.

In 1854, John Snow, a doctor, defied Victorian society in his battle against the most feared disease of the age: cholera. As cholera ravaged the streets of London, Snow traced death itself to a single water pump in Soho.

UK drinking water regulations are designed around acceptable risk thresholds and public health protection not absolute purity.

So you can have water that: •legally passes standards, •is considered safe by regulators, •but still contains trace amounts of substances like chlorine byproducts, pesticides, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, or microplastics at levels currently deemed acceptable 🤢
