His actions as part of DOGE have threatened US national security, risked data breaches, threatened the scientific research enterprise, and put thousands of lives at risk through his savaging of US AID. Time for Musk to be out of the Royal Society.

From the US legislation banning TikTok: "This bill prohibits distributing, maintaining or providing internet hosting services for a foreign adversary controlled application..." That sounds like a good template for UK and EU legislation banning X.

What is Elon Musk but a "foreign adversary"? His interference in EU/UK affairs is far more hostile and damaging than anything done on TikTok contra the US. And with Trump threatening to invade Greenland (or tariff Denmark into submission) US looks adversarial

It was already bad enough that Elon Musk platformed far-right hate speech and incitement to riot on Twitter, and promulgated inflammatory disinformation, But how do we feel about what can only be construed as a threat to rape somebody in retaliation for their views?

It's past due time for the Royal Society to expel Musk from the Fellowship. Initiating action is in the control of the Royal Society Council, not the membership as a whole. Council must not be cowardly about this. The reputation of the Society is at stake.

There is a move afoot to expel Elon Musk from the Royal Society. As a RoySoc Fellow, I say Go For It! Our statutes call for expulsion of Fellows whose actions bring the reputation of the Society into disrepute.

I while back, I lamented "What a cesspit Twitter has become!" But seeing the latest incoherent far-right rants by Elon Musk, I think I have been insulting to cesspits. I'd quit, but I don't want any climate denialists squatting on my handle.
