open.spotify.com/episode/43u…. In this episode, we explore one of the most important questions facing students, graduates, educators, and employers today: What truly makes someone employable in the modern workplace? Drawing on the article "Communication skills vital for new graduates", this discussion examines why technical qualifications and academic achievements alone are no longer sufficient for long-term career success. While technical expertise may open the door, it is human skills such as communication, empathy, relationship-building, ethical decision-making, adaptability, and business awareness that often determine how far individuals progress in their careers. We unpack the growing importance of these future-ready skills in a rapidly changing world of work and discuss how graduates can position themselves for success by developing both professional competence and strong interpersonal capabilities. The episode also highlights the role of higher education institutions in preparing students not only for employment but also for leadership, collaboration, and meaningful contribution in society. Key Topics Covered Why communication remains a critical employability skillThe balance between technical expertise and human skillsBuilding meaningful professional relationshipsEmpathy, ethics, and emotional intelligence in the workplacePreparing graduates for the future of workThe role of universities in developing future-ready professionalsPersonal branding and responsible digital citizenship Whether you are a student, graduate, educator, employer, or industry leader, this episode offers practical insights into developing the skills that matter most in today's interconnected and evolving workplace. Key Message Technical skills may get you hired, but human skills help you thrive, lead, and create lasting impact. #HumanSkills #GraduateEmployability #FutureOfWork #HigherEducation #CommunicationSkills #Leadership #CareerDevelopment #EmotionalIntelligence #StudentSuccess #WorkplaceReadiness #WongaNtshinga

Morning Thought The Root of Your Identity [5] “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” - Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV It is very difficult to find your purpose in this life. It is very difficult to define yourself purely from your independent thinking process. It is even harder to define yourself without using your experiences as a foundation. Much harder to define yourself without the opinions of others over your life. One of the traits of life is that it is ever-changing, and people's opinions follow the same nature - ever-changing. In one season, who they affirmed you to be is insufficient in the next season. The complexity gets worse when you try to know who you are culturally. In one culture, it is acceptable to be yourself, and in another, it is shunned upon. Morality and ethics are never absolute. They change based on the cultural environment and traditional practices. You are the only person you live with everywhere. No matter where you go, you are with you. If your identity is geographical and culturally rooted and defined, you will always be living with a stranger in your own mind. But God has created you and knows who you are. He has defined you outside of culture, traditions, ethics, and morality. He has given you an immutable identity. An identity of you that transcends geography, culture, human evolution, and transformation. You are not the body in which you live. You are not defined by the experiences you've lived through. You are not defined by the opinions of other people. God knew you before you had a body. And if that is who He knows, then who are you outside of the body? At one of the Progress Meeting on the construction of the #ThaboMbekiPresidentialCentre, one of President Mbeki's recurring questions was simple but profound: What will happen to all the trees we are uprooting? It was a reminder that development and environmental stewardship must go hand in hand. Progress cannot come at the expense of the natural world that sustains us. This is why the visit to Kirstenbosch carried such significance. Beyond its breathtaking beauty, it reflected a lifelong appreciation for nature, biodiversity, and the responsibility we all share to protect our planet for future generations.

“Write the essay your grandchildren will need. Record the song that will outlast you. Endow the chair. Fund the residency. Donate the archive your mother left in a box in the garage. When its doors open in 2028, the TMPC will be one of the places where this work is gathered and transformed into something the continent can use to catalyse the African Renaissance. We will need many more such institutions, in dialogue with one another, building the continental conversation that no single institution can sustain on its own.” — Lukhanyo Neer, COO, Thabo Mbeki Foundation As we mark Youth Month, our focus turns to culture, the arts, and music as vital contributions to our collective granary of knowledge and memory. The African Renaissance is not only shaped by policy and economics; it is also carried in songs, stories, archives, performances, and works of art. By creating, preserving, and sharing these cultural treasures, we ensure that the voices, experiences, and aspirations of our people remain part of the continent's evolving narrative. webtickets.co.za/v2/event.as… @dmandisi @kumasote

Tribute to Tiyo Soga The concert is a collaboration between the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and Classics on Turf, marking the occasion of the former President’s 84th birthday. The name Tiyo Soga resonates most strongly with his contribution to the canon of Christian hymns in isiXhosa, most notably Lizalis’ idinga lakho, the ‘unofficial’ anthem of resistance to colonial oppression. Johannesburg will be treated to the artistry of Mandisi Dyantyis with a choir and full orchestra, tastefully re-interpreting hymns that have been a part of our South African consciousness for well over a century. webtickets.co.za/v2/event.as…
