It is good to see the
@EU_ISS' reflections and recommendations on the tricky subject of climate interventions – especially regarding research on solar radiation modification and the governance of potential applications.
The International Center for Future Generations - ICFG team agrees with the recommendations that the EU should engage in 1. guiding research to ensure it is done responsibly, 2. funding public research to address knowledge gaps, and 3. helping develop international governance that deters conflictual use.
In addition, we have identified several no-regret governance opportunities to further this issue without predetermining future choices for use or non-use. These include transparency, monitoring, cooperation to delineate (un-) desirable activities, and (collaborative) foresight to better anticipate how things could go wrong or right in the broader climate risk landscape. These are outlined in our program fact sheet:

Finally, I'd like to note that the EU has already commissioned work to enhance guidance on solar radiation modification research - through the project

@LukasTraki. To avoid rogue deployment of some of the most controversial technologies & assess potential.
