He made these remarks during the eighth edition of the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign at Stop n Shop on Saturday.

The Mayor was speaking during the eighth edition of the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign at Stop n Shop on Saturday.
Traders at Stop n Shop joined Windhoek Mayor, Councillor Sakaria Uunona, on Saturday for the eighth edition of the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign, demonstrating their commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier trading environment.
The campaign is part of the City’s ongoing clean-up initiative, which is being rolled out across all constituencies in the region and will continue until October 2026. Volunteers from Rent-A-Drum, Namica Supermarket, and students from NUST also answered the Mayor’s call.
The Mayor commended the traders for their enthusiastic participation and dedication to maintaining a clean marketplace, noting that unhygienic trading environments can pose serious public health risks, including food contamination and preventable illnesses.
REMINDER – Residents are kindly reminded that the 8th Edition of the Mayoral Clean-Up Campaign will take place tomorrow, 13 June 2026, at Stop n Shop in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency.

A delegation from Cricket Namibia today paid a courtesy visit to Windhoek Mayor, Sakaria Uunona, to discuss preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which Namibia will co-host alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe.
CEO Johan Muller emphasised the significance of the tournament, stating: “The world is coming to Namibia, and we must be ready to maximise the economic opportunities and lasting benefits that come with hosting an international sporting showcase of this magnitude.”
Mayor Uunona congratulated Cricket Namibia on the successful hosting of the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup and reaffirmed the City’s commitment to partnering with the organisation to ensure the successful delivery of the 2027 tournament.

The City of Windhoek today hosted members of the media on an information tour of the Gammams Wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Laboratory, and the New Goreangab Water Reclamation Plant operated by WINGOC.
The tour provided first-hand insight into the wastewater treatment and water reclamation processes that ensure safe, high-quality drinking water for residents. Reclaimed water contributes about 20% of Windhoek’s water supply.
The City’s SADCAS-accredited Water Laboratory continues to monitor and test water quality to ensure compliance with national and international standards.
