The lights are coming on at fields, courts, and rinks all over the country right now. If your athlete had a great day, hold it lightly. If they had a hard one, hold them closely. In fifteen years, the result you remember will not be this. It will be that you were in the stands every single time. That is the whole thing. That was always the whole thing!

What is one tradition your family built around your athlete's sport that you will miss when these years are over? Name it out loud today. In the schedule's grind, we forget we are living inside the part we will ache for later.

At the games today, watch how your athlete handles the worst call of the day. Those ten seconds tell a college coach more than ten good plays. They are not looking for the one who never gets the terrible call. They want the one who lets it go and makes the next play. Composure is a tool and scouts grade it in every sport.

"They don't ask you how. They just ask you how many." My father meant the world counts results, not excuses, and he lived it , worn down but upright, keys on the table every night. I have softened it some as a parent myself; young athletes need the how too. But the bones are true. Teach your child to do the work when no one is counting. The counting takes care of itself.

Your only assignment this weekend: catch your athlete doing one thing right and tell them specifically, before anything else. Not "good game." Something they did, "you sprinted back on defense without being told." They will carry that sentence longer than the score, and longer than any correction you led with.

GREED from these “advisors” is dirtying the waters of college baseball recruiting and the transfer portal. They’re out here pushing players to jump in with big promises of NIL money, revenue share, and a much better home — when the actual numbers show most of that is fantasy for the average kid. Thousands of players enter the portal every year chasing exactly that. But data from the 2025 cycle shows roughly half of baseball players who entered never even appeared in NCAA stats the next season. They didn’t land a roster spot at a new school. 64analytics.com Of the ones who do land somewhere, the median increase in playing time is modest at best — only about 1 in 3 sees their role grow by more than half. And in baseball, real money (beyond a scholarship) is rare for most. The big NIL and revenue-share checks go to a small handful of elite guys. Everyone else is often left chasing ghosts. Stop letting greedy advisors sell you on portal moves that frequently end with no new home, no extra money, and sometimes a worse situation. Performance and real fit still matter more than the hype.

The spring is almost gone. For the parents who set out with a goal in May, how is it going, honestly? The proud moments and the hard ones, both. This room is at its best when families are real with each other instead of performing for each other.

I once told a talented athlete that the position they loved was not their future , the measurables said so, plainly. The family was not happy. But I would rather they hear it from me than learn it from the bench. Playing an athlete where they truly excel is not an insult. Fit over fame. It is the difference between belonging and hanging on. Want to know who, just reply " WHO"

Tonight, ask your athlete one question and stay quiet long enough to hear the entire answer: "What part of this do you actually love?" Write what they say and tape it inside a cabinet. On the hard mornings two years from now, that sentence in their own handwriting will outwork any pep talk.

As of this week there are over 6,500 Division III Student-Athletes in the NCAA transfer portal, let that sink in! Approximately 70% are male athletes.
