Sadly, many parents wouldn’t agree. Reason….in HS, little Johnny has to compete for a position. In travel, you pay for one. That’s the difference and most parents will never admit that.
I coach varsity H.S. baseball and travel ball… and I’d take H.S. baseball every single time. The school pride. The community. The rivalries. The pressure to win. The packed playoff games. Playing for your town. In my eyes H.S. baseball just means more.

Everything today is “look at me” and “look what I’m doing.” 8th graders are making announcement posts about what H.S. they’re going to. I honestly just don’t understand when youth sports turned into personal branding. Maybe I’m just old school.

65 years ago this spring, the SL baseball program secured its first league championship. On Monday, Don McAleer, an assistant coach with that team, was on hand to throw out a ceremonial first pitch and help us wake up the echoes of a historic season!

Never understood H.S. coaches who ignore freshman or JV programs. That’s the future of your varsity team. Then they complain about no depth, culture, or players ready for varsity. If you only coach varsity, you’re not building a program—you’re just coaching a team.

Matthew Frattasio's 2-run double with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th sparked the SL baseball team to a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over Scituate on Monday. The #31 Lakers (5-8) will look to extend the momentum when they host #15 Hingham on Tuesday.

I tell all my hitters that you better have a two strike approach because 50% of your bats will come with two strikes…. Sometimes it’s a mindset sometimes a physical adjustment. Sometimes it’s both. It’s a skill that needs to be developed & mastered to play at high of levels.
Don't let anyone tell you the 2-strike approach is dead. Enjoy this absolute masterclass from Mauricio Dubon. After two whiffs on 97 mph fastballs he got a third. He dropped the leg kick, spread out, no stride and smoked a base clearing triple to right field.

The majority of high school baseball coaches aren’t in it for the paycheck. The hours don’t match. The stress doesn’t match. The pay doesn’t match. They do it for the love of the game, most people don’t realize that.
