Plainfield looks to replace 22 seniors

After posting three winning seasons, Plainfield football coach Tyler Bless looks to continue the winning ways this season despite having to replace 22 seniors from a team that went 7-3 last fall.
"Many contributed for multiple years at the varsity level in many different positions, but, most importantly, we will miss their leadership and winning mindset," Bless told Hoosier Prep Gridiron.
Despite the losses, the Quakers have had a good offseason, dating back to last December when Plainfield hit the weight room with strength coach Randy Vanderbush.
"The offseason went really well for us. We really had great attendance, effort and accountability all the way through the last week of May. The motivation from our players has always been there. The way our season ended last year was disappointing, but also has motivated our players to do right, do their best and show people they care. It was great to use our limited contact periods in the winter and spring and really allowed us to narrow down the things we want to execute on offense, defense and special teams," Bless said.
Plainfield brings back several talented pieces this season. Offensively, the Quakers bring back Bryce Sebanc, Zander Nattam, Ethan Ellis, Devin D'Amato, Wrigley Matthews, Luke Martin, Michael Fontaine, Coen Vanderbush and Austin Ward.
Defensively, Coen Vanderbush, Ty White, and Hayden Hrbek return and are joined by a "number of newcomers," according to Bless. Special teams sees the return of Robert Hansing, Ty White and Zander Nattam.
With the calendar marching to August and the start of the season, Bless said the Quakers will look to build off the offseason in the weight room, as well as getting physical reps on the field.
"Continue to install our playbook on all three phases but also fine tune the things we need to be successful on a daily basis. We will compete against other schools around the area but continue to focus on us and our daily 1-0 mindset," he said.
Plainfield opens the season Aug. 21 against Franklin Central, and Bless is ready to see what transpires for his team.
"I am really excited for this upcoming season and the things we have in place for our team. We will need to continue to have a great summer, fall camp and be ready to go week one. If we can stay healthy and put our players in the best positions possible, I like our chances," Bless said.
