Defending Super Bowl Champion
@Seahawks Coach Mike MacDonald describes perfectly the difference between Title and Values here, and what that distinction means in terms of being a leader:
🎖️ Titles may mean authority, but values produce real influence. A promotion, a job title, or a "C" on your jersey identify who is in charge, but it doesn't determine who people trust or follow. Real leadership isn't a status symbol, it's a service mission.
🧭 You don't become a leader when you're given a promotion. You become a leader by consistently modeling behaviors worth following. Your title may open the door, but your values determine who walks through it with you. The best leaders don't have to demand respect because they earn it through their behavior. Your behavior is just a lagging indicator of your values, and your values are what people follow when the title of "Boss" isn't in the room.
🤝 People don't follow positions, they follow actions. You build trust by your words and your life matching up. The leaders who inspire others are the ones willing to give themselves to a cause bigger than themselves, especially when no recognition is guaranteed.
Your title tells people who the leader is, but your values determine if people are willing to sacrifice for your team.
