Ahh yes. The Driveline conspiracy angle! Except that every single study on this topic has come to the same directional conclusion: 1️⃣ Ball weight goes up 2️⃣ Arm speed goes down 3️⃣ Elbow varus torque goes down It isn’t 2018. Driveline doesn’t control the weighted ball market with an iron fist anymore. Hell you could argue this research benefits Dongguan Blorpex Sunshine Global Lifestyle Trading Co and others selling bootleg plyos / WB on Amazon more than it does us. We press onward with stuff like this because - believe it or not - we actually care about getting to the truth of what works to train players. That inherently also means getting to the bottom of where the risk is and isn’t. Evidence > narrative.
Well of course the biggest name in the weighted ball business is going to say weighted balls aren’t the problem😂

The hitter’s swings, foul balls, and takes give you a good idea of his approach. What do I mean? Fastballs: Is he late on the FB? Where are his foul balls? Pulled foul? Or over the opposite dugout? Or, is he taking them? So, if late, this means that we pitch FB in, up, and expand down. If he’s taking them, he might be sitting strike offspeed. Also, if he’s late on FB, be careful throwing a get me over strike offspeed pitch. You will be doing him a favor. A good question to ask is, where can we go where his barrel can’t square the ball up? Offspeed: is he pulling them foul? Are his takes good or bad? Does his swing look comfortable on the offspeed? Where does he chase? A good tidbit to follow is that we should chase bad swings. The best hitters in the world can make the adjustment pitch to pitch. Most players, especially at the HS and below level, can’t do that. So if he takes a bad swing on a pitch, throw it again. If he takes it, throw a different pitch, then go back to bad swing pitch. Another tidbit is that if the hitter fouls a ball straight back to the backstop, be very careful repeating that, because he just missed it. Many more nuances to this but this is basic food for thought.

Can you expand on how you teach this concept to catchers? It's good to know what a hitter's deficiencies are, but that doesn't explain the proper way to sequence.

🚨 Skenes - Quantifying Success • 1st pitch strikes • 2/3 pitches for strikes • A result in 3 pitches or less ⭐️ Early action is a starting pitcher’s best friend. Attack the zone & stay in control of the count.

3 pitch sets! It’s the centerpiece of getting your amateur pitchers to consistently throw the ball over the plate & pitch to contact 8 sets of 3 pitches Are you ahead or behind after 3 pitches? Do that 8 times & if your pitcher isn’t ahead 75% of the time, they don’t progress! Start with FB only for young guys, and put an enticement in play… you can pitch in a game or you can use your changeup next time… but force them to achieve 75% More advanced players make the breaking pitch the enticement, or using the Rapsodo or tech as the enticement. Throw 75% ahead or you stay put in your progression. If you can’t have success 6 out of 8 times in 3 pitch sets, you don’t belong throwing offspeed pitches in games! And you don’t belong on any tech if you can’t do the same! This has nothing to do with technique or mechanics, it instills a competitive mentality and mindset on your staff. For pitchers that buy in, it becomes about how quickly they can get off the field, which typically means they ain’t giving up a bunch of runs. We used to tell our guys, ‘fill the scoreboard with eggs and noodles (0s and 1,) and do it quickly!’
