Other coaches at every clinie ask Coach John Marshall the same question.
“How does Randolph tackle so well?”
His answer is never about technique. It’s never about a drill.
His first question back is always: “What’s your weight room like?”
Because you physically have to bring another human being down. You can’t teach that with a tackling circuit if the kid in the pads doesn’t have the strength to finish the play.
Marshall took Randolph from 17 kids on the roster to a two-time Massachusetts state champion. He didn’t do it with a fancy tackling system. He did it with a weight room his kids fight to get into at 6 a.m. before school.
If your tackling looks soft on Friday, the answer isn’t a new drill on Monday - Look at your weight room.
